  1. No longer will the church of the future and the church of the City be known by its denominational names, but by its influence in a region.  In other words, when asking the question, “How is the Church in this City?” it will not be answered in terms of worship attendance and offerings and programs and buildings.  Rather, it will be answered by the influence the Church has on the realms of media, arts and entertainment, government, business, family, education and religious philosophy in a given region or area.
  2. No longer will the church of the future and the church of the City be known by the functioning of its buildings, but by the functioning of its families.  In other words, when observing the Church of the City, we will not by impressed by the buildings we own or the programs we run, but rather impressed by how we love one another, forgive one another and build one another up in Christ.  We will see discipleship practiced first in the home.  We will see the spiritual adoption of “throw away children” into spiritual families take the place of a temporary foster care mentality.  We will see hard earned reconciliation take the place of painful divorce.  We will see healing by God-inspired faith take the place of the prescription of man’s wisdom.  We will see humility in the face of our weaknesses make us strong and take the place of the pride that undermines our testimony.  We will see Body-Life and interdependence take the place of independence and self-sufficiency.
  3. No longer will the church of the future and the church of the City be known by great, anointed preachers who build mega-churches.  Instead we will see the practice of eldership at various levels of family and community.  In other words, the Church of the City will recognize first that the spirit of an elder is the Holy Spirit in us.  This means the Holy Spirit in our spirit graciously governs the soul and body as both soul and body willingly submit to the spirit.  An elder of a family is the father who recognizes the plurality of eldership within the family unit, for true eldership is a spiritual exercise that involves inquiring of the Lord together in regard to decision-making responsibilities.   This practice of eldership applies to ever widening circles of families, clans, and tribes building up to one holy nation.
  4. No longer will the church of the future and the church of the City be governed by the traditions of men, but by the Spirit of the Lord.  The Church of the City will be governed by elders who recognize the five-fold ministry of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.  Together they equip the body for the work of the ministry.  These gifts of ministers will not be worshiped, nor be denigrated.  The will of the people will not determine the plan of God for a region.  Rather, the Church of the City will always first and foremost be a spiritual exercise, declaring the will, the way and the word of the Lord.  We will inquire of the Lord in all things.
  5. No longer will the church of the future and the church of the City be known by the opposite extremes of poverty and lavish excess.   Rather, the Church of the City will be known to have “more than enough” and to be content in whatever economic season comes, for the Lord our God provides graciously and generously.  The prosperity of the Church of the City will be evident by the prosperity of the Holy Spirit who lives in and among them.  There will be no lack evident among us living together as one Body.
  6. No longer will the church of the future and the church of the City be known by its division in race, doctrine, politics, color and even worship style.  Rather, the Church of the City will be known by the unity of the Spirit where the Lord has commanded the blessing to be made evident.  Its elders exist not to be served, but to serve.  Children are encouraged to be children. Teens are encouraged to grow up into young adulthood; men to be men, women to be women.  Everyone is encouraged to embrace their family heritage with thanksgiving and a Holy Spirit guided freedom of expression.   The Church will not be known by uniformity, but by conformity to the image of Christ by the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.  The Church will realize that together we re-present Christ to the world.
  7. No longer will the church of the future and the church of the City hide from the threats of darkness and live under its oppression.  Rather, the Church of the City will be known by its dispelling the darkness by the light of Christ within us.  The authority of Christ lives in us to declare that the kingdoms of this world have become the Kingdom of the Lord and of his Christ.  Mental illnesses like depression, paranoia, schizophrenia and physical maladies like diabetes, kidney failure, and heart failure will become rare.  We will offer treaties of peace to all, encouraging all to repent and be baptized, to receive the Lord Jesus and the gift of Holy Spirit into their lives, and to live according to the amazing grace given to those who follow the Lord Jesus, being grafted into his Body.
  8. No longer will the church of the future and the church of the City  be about the Church, but about the King and His Kingdom which precedes and produces the Church.  Instead of trying to get everyone to come to the “best church in town”, we will empower everyone to be the Church whoever we are, whatever we do and wherever we go in Jesus’ Name.  We gather as families, clans, tribes and holy nation to worship the King and to go live and proclaim the Kingdom of God.  We gather as various expressions in the course of the week.  We gather at regularly appointed times to declare the ordinances, statutes and judgments of God. We do not gather for gathering’s sake, but to fellowship and to worship which leads us to be sent, only to gather once again and to be sent again.
